Web Developer

September, 2020 - January 2021

Capstone Project (WorkoutCaddy):

Personally built an app which allows the user to create an account, view the database of exercises, create and save a custom workout/exercise, view exercises by category and filter by specific focus. Each exercise includes a description and picture (pulled from an API) that helps the user preform the exercise correctly. Built on a Ruby-on-Rails backend and a Vue.js frontend, incorporating and modifying Bootstrap elements and JavaScript transition elements.

Bootcamp:

Learned fundamentals and best practices in full-stack web development in areas of project architecture, backend, frontend, and how to effectively self-teach new technologies Generated technical requirements and determined the most effective solutions, created wireframes, designed schema, and researched outside resources Built and tested the backend, incorporating external APIs Created pages and RESTful routes, made web requests to retrieve data, formatted and styled results, incorporated libraries and themes

My Story

I recently graduated from Actualize coding bootcamp. It was an amazing experience and really helped me confirm my web development career aspirations. During the course of the bootcamp, I really feel inlove with coding. For me, it is all about feeling you get when you finally get the difficult code you wrote to do what you want. I am very excited for the future and can’t wait to start implementing all the things I’ve learned into a rewarding career.

Before I made the commitment to become a software engineer, I was an exercise physiologist for a health and wellness company. This was my first true passion. I grew up playing sports and wanted to be involved in athletics. My role allowed me to work will all kinds of different people. I often had to be creative in order to provide the best service depending on the specific individual. Being creative and adaptable to various situations are just a few skills needed to be successful and also translates well into the world of coding.

By nature, I am a very competitive person. No matter what I do, I want to perform well. I have always been like this and always will. This also shows in all of my work. I am the first in, last out and have a strong internal motivation to produce quality work that I can be proud of. My competitive nature is what drives me forward and motivates me to work hard. Growing up competing in sports and dealing with performing under pressure is what helped me develop a calm demeanor. I am able to remain collected and think rationally under stressful situations. This I believe, is one of my biggest assets and I apply it to everything I do.
